영국 요크셔에서 태어나 현재 런던에 살고 있는 Paul Bower은 스스로를 ‘집착하는 낙서쟁이’ 라고 부르는 이러스트레이터다. 작업의 시작은 리노컷이었지만, 지금은 이 단순하고 원초적인 미감을 바탕으로 만화, 팬진, 패턴 디자인, 손글씨에 대한 애정을 결합해 자신만의 세계를 만들어내고 있다. 유쾌한 캐릭터와 대담한 색감, 장난기 가득한 유머가 뒤섞인 그의 스타일은 어디서나 시선을 사로잡는다.
스튜디오 밖에선 도서관에서 만화책을 읽거나 버스 안에서 사람들을 그리거나, 바 끝에서 “내가 V&A 어워드 수상했던 얘기 들어봤어? 라고 말문을 여는 그를 종종 만날 수 있다.
Born in Yorkshire and based in London, Paul Bower is an obsessive doodler. Originally working in linocut, he now combines this stripped down, back-to-basics aesthetic with his love of comics, fanzines, pattern design and hand-drawn typography, resulting in a rich world of playful characters and bright bold colours, often with a cheeky edge.
When not in his studio he can usually be found down at the library reading comic books, drawing people on buses or at the end of the bar going on about that time he won a V & A Award, amongst others.
