A CHANCE TONE OF COLOUR
잉크와 종이의 만남에서 탄생하는 즉흥성과 마법 같은 순간을 포착하는 것으로 잘 알려진 아티스트, 노모코(Nomoco). 그녀의 작업은 종이라는 매체 위에 잉크가 닿는 찰나의 생동감을 고스란히 담아낸다.
이번 전시에서 노모코는 도시 속 사람들부터 자정의 숲에 우거진 나무들까지, 세상 곳곳에서 마주할 수 있는 ‘모임(gathering)’의 순간들을 주제로 삼았다.
작품 속 잉크의 세포들은 이질적인 것들이 조화를 이루며 하나로 이어지는 풍경을 상징적으로 그려낸다. 잉크 페인팅 시리즈, 애니메이션 쇼릴, 그리고 노모코의 스케치북을 엮은 한정판 출판물이 2월 18일부터 3월 18일까지 포코 갤러리(Pocko Gallery)에서 공개될 예정이다.
Known specifically for her use of ink and paper, Nomoco’s processes capture the special spontaneity and magic of when ink comes into contact with paper.
Nomoco’s work for this exhibition represents ‘gatherings’ found in the world around us, from people in an enormous city to trees in a midnight forest.
The built up ink cells in Nomoco’s work portray the elements in the world around us coming together to create unity and harmony. A series of ink paintings, an animation showreel and a limited edition publication of Nomoco’s sketchbook will be exhibited in Pocko Gallery from February 18th to March 18th.
노모코(Nomoco)는 일본 후쿠오카에서 태어나 현재는 런던을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 일본 오사카예술대학을 졸업한 뒤, 런던커뮤니케이션대학(London College of Communication)에서 그래픽 디자인 학사, 센트럴 세인트 마틴(Central Saint Martins)에서 커뮤니케이션 디자인 석사를 마쳤다. 런던, 밀라노, 도쿄, 싱가포르, 뉴욕, 멕시코시티 등 세계 여러 도시에서 개인전과 그룹전을 열며 작품을 선보여왔다.
자연과 프렌치 호른에서 영감을 받는 노모코는 다양한 재료와 수공예적인 방식을 실험하는 것을 즐긴다. 특히 최근 몇 년간은 잉크 특유의 유기적인 흐름에 매료되어 이를 주요 표현 매체로 삼아왔다. 그녀는 ‘카즈코 노모코(Kazuko Nomoco)’라는 본명으로도 작업을 병행한다.
Nomoco was born in Fukuoka, Japan and currently lives in London. She graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Japan, subsequently graduating from London College of Communication, UK, with a BA in Graphic Design, and Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, UK, with an MA in Communication Design. Nomoco has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in London, Milan, Tokyo, Singapore, New York and Mexico City.
Nature and the French Horn are her inspiration. She enjoys experimenting with various materials and craft-work in her works. For the past few years, she has been especially keen on playing with ink and its organic movement. She also produces work under her full name Kazuko Nomoco.
